About

The child of two artists it was no surprise Amelia Mollett chose to study Fine Art at the WA Institute of Technology, graduating in 1984.

Working in studios in Perth and Fremantle and exhibiting in a number of group shows she gained recognition for her work in exploring arcades and facades that were disappearing as the city developed and grew.

In 1987, she was the recipient of the Guy Grey Smith Memorial Travelling Fellowship and, in 1988, she received a Creative Development Grant from the Western Australian Department for the Arts. She visited England, France and Spain which culminated in an exhibition of mixed media paintings and drawings at the Fremantle Arts Centre in 1989.

In 1990 she moved to London, where she shared a studio in Chelsea and North Kensington. In 1993 she returned to Australia and her experiences helping run a WA property resulted in the exhibition of paintings and drawings 'A year in Esperance' held at the Cannery Arts Centre the following year. After seven years of farm life she relocated to Canberra with her partner and two young children.

While working at a framing business Amelia studied Museum Practice and from 2008 to 2018 worked as an Art Handler in the Collections of the Australian War Memorial and The National Portrait Gallery.

Currently Amelia works from her studio and is a member of Canberra Art Workshop (CAW). She is an attendee at various art groups, workshops and had her third solo exhibition at Stathnairn Arts Gallery in 2023.

In 2024, she was awarded the Mavis Hall Trust Grant by administered by Canberra Art Workshop. In Autumn 2025, Amelia travelled to Tassie to attend an Art Retreat run by Artable in Winnaleah, NE Tasmania. The 5 days were tutored by landscape artist Tim Allen and involved en plein air sketching and studio work.

May 2025 celebrated her fourth solo exhibition ‘place where I go’ at the Front Gallery & Cafe, Wattle Street Lyneham ACT.
