Amelia Mollett is a Canberra based artist living and working on Ngunnawal / Ngambri land whose primary modes of art practice are drawing, painting and collage work.

She is interested in using line, colour, light and shade to explore the natural elements around her by using bold brushstrokes, layering and mixed media.

In 2024, Amelia was awarded the Mavis Hall Trust grant administrated by Canberra Art Workshop.

This enabled her to travel to Tasmania to attend an Art Retreat held by Artable in the small town of Winnaleah. The 5 day art retreat tutored by artist Tim Allen and was based around ‘en plein air’ sketching in the morning at different landscapes. In the afternoon she worked up paintings in the studio set up in the Winnaleah Memorial Hall.

ARTIST STATEMENT

While walking my dog Maizie at Pryor’s arboretum, I can become transfixed by the way the sunlight reflects off the lake through the reeds and she-oaks. To me the trees, mountains and sky seem to frame the view like a stage set imbued with a powerful sense of place. Using collage and mixed media I love to explore how to represent this multi layered natural world in a way that mirrors how I feel.

Shoreline triptych

My idea was to interconnect three canvas’s with the horizon and tree lines of the lake edge.

And to create a continuous framed vista akin to walking in the landscape by using paint, collage elements and stencils.
